Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris), the common mugwort, is a tall, aromatic perennial of the daisy family, Asteraceae, native to Europe, Asia and North Africa and naturalized across North America along roadsides and waste ground. It grows 1-2 m tall with reddish, grooved stems and deeply lobed leaves that are dark green above and silvery-white with dense down beneath; small reddish-brown flower heads form long, leafy panicles in late summer. The crushed leaves smell of sage and chrysanthemum with a bitter taste, and flavored beer before hops. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
