Niu Da Li Teng (Nanhaia speciosa, long listed as Millettia speciosa or Callerya speciosa), known as "ox strength vine", is a woody climbing shrub of the legume family, Fabaceae, native to the hills of Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Fujian and Yunnan in southern China and northern Vietnam. It climbs with pinnate leaves of 7-13 leathery leaflets and large, showy panicles of white or cream pea flowers followed by flat, woolly pods. The woody stems and thick, starchy roots are yellowish-brown and slightly sweet. We extract the dried stem.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
