Nopal Cactus (Opuntia streptacantha), the cardon or tuna cardona prickly pear, is a tree-like cactus of the cactus family, Cactaceae, native to the central Mexican highlands of San Luis Potosi, Zacatecas and Guanajuato. It grows 3-5 m with a stout woody trunk and a dense crown of flat, rounded, blue-green pads armed with white spines and tufts of fine glochids. Yellow flowers along the pad margins ripen into deep red, juicy, sweet tunas, and the young pads are sliced as the vegetable nopalitos. We extract the dried whole cactus.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
