Partridgeberry (Mitchella repens) is a creeping evergreen of the coffee family, Rubiaceae, native to the woodlands of eastern North America from Canada to Florida and Texas. Its trailing stems carpet the forest floor with pairs of small, glossy, rounded leaves marked by a pale midrib. In early summer it bears twin white, fragrant trumpet-shaped flowers whose two ovaries fuse into a single scarlet berry that persists through winter. The whole plant stays low, rarely above a few centimeters. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
