Polapola (Aerva lanata) is a woolly perennial herb of the amaranth family, Amaranthaceae, native to tropical Africa, Arabia and South and Southeast Asia, where it grows as a common plant of fields, waste ground and roadsides. It has many branching stems to about 1 meter, small oval to rounded leaves covered in white hairs, and dense clusters of tiny white, cottony flowers crowded in the leaf axils along the stems. The Sinhala name polpala is the origin of the catalogue name. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
