Pygeum (Prunus africana) is the African cherry, a tall evergreen tree of the rose family, Rosaceae, native to montane forests across sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar at 900 to 3,400 meters. It grows to 25 meters or more, with a straight trunk, rough blackish-brown bark that cracks into rectangular plates, and glossy, oblong, leathery leaves that smell of almonds when crushed. Small white flowers in long racemes are followed by bitter red to brown cherry-like drupes. Bark harvest is regulated under CITES. We extract the dried bark.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
