About Ceanothus americanus

Red Root (Ceanothus americanus) is New Jersey tea, a low deciduous shrub of the buckthorn family, Rhamnaceae, native to eastern and central North America, where it grows in dry open woods and prairies. It forms a rounded bush about 1 meter tall with oval, finely toothed leaves marked by three prominent veins, and in early summer bears fluffy clusters of tiny white flowers on long stalks. The deep, woody root is strikingly red inside and can be far larger than the plant above ground. We extract the dried root.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
