Restharrow (Ononis spinosa) is spiny restharrow, a low woody perennial of the legume family, Fabaceae, native to Europe, western Asia and North Africa, where it grows on dry grassland, chalk downs and roadsides. It forms a tangled bush 30 to 60 cm tall with spiny branches, small trifoliate leaves with toothed leaflets and solitary pink pea-like flowers in the upper leaf axils through summer. The long, tough, woody roots run deep and once fouled the harrow, which gave the plant its English name. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
