Sandalwood (Santalum album) is Indian sandalwood, a small evergreen tree of the sandalwood family, Santalaceae, native to the dry forests of southern India and Timor and now plantation-grown in India and northern Australia. It grows 4 to 9 meters with drooping branches, smooth opposite leaves and small reddish-purple flowers in sparse clusters, and is a root parasite that draws water and minerals from neighboring trees. The pale yellow-brown heartwood develops its warm, sweet, woody fragrance only after decades of growth. We extract the dried wood.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
