Sang Ji Sheng Mulberry is in fact a mistletoe, Taxillus chinensis, a parasitic evergreen shrub of the showy mistletoe family, Loranthaceae, native to southern China and Southeast Asia, where it roots into the branches of mulberry and many other host trees. It forms a woody clump about a meter across with opposite, leathery, oval leaves 3 to 8 cm long, and small tubular purple-red flowers in the leaf axils, followed by yellowish berries covered in fine warts. The dried leafy stems are cut into short sections. We extract the dried stem.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
