Sargassum seaweed is a brown alga of the family Sargassaceae (class Phaeophyceae), a genus of some 350 species found in temperate and tropical seas worldwide; the Chinese material hai zao comes mainly from Sargassum pallidum and Sargassum fusiforme gathered along the coasts of China, Korea and Japan. The plants are olive-brown, branched and bushy, with leaf-like blades and small round air bladders that keep the fronds afloat. Pelagic species form the floating rafts of the Sargasso Sea. We extract the dried algae.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
