Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) is a low, clumping palm of the palm family, Arecaceae, native to the coastal plain of the southeastern United States from South Carolina to Florida and Louisiana, where it carpets pine flatwoods and dunes. Its stems creep along or just under the ground, rarely rising above 2 to 3 meters, and bear fan-shaped, blue-green to yellow-green leaves on stalks edged with sharp, saw-like teeth. Fragrant yellow-white flowers in dense panicles are followed by oval drupes that ripen from green to blue-black in autumn. We extract the dried berry.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
