Shi Jian Chuan (Salvia chinensis) is the Chinese sage, a small annual of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to eastern and central China, where it grows on hillsides, roadsides and the edges of fields in the Yangtze valley provinces. It reaches 20 to 60 cm with square, sometimes purplish stems and leaves that may be simple and oval or divided into three leaflets on the same plant. Whorls of small blue-purple two-lipped flowers form loose spikes in summer. The Chinese name means "stone-seeing sword". We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
