Shi Jue Ming is abalone shell, here from the greenlip abalone (Haliotis laevigata), a marine snail of the family Haliotidae, not a plant, native to the cool southern coasts of Australia, where it grazes algae on reefs and is also farmed. The ear-shaped shell grows to about 20 cm, with a smooth, reddish-brown to green exterior, a line of respiratory holes along one edge and an interior lined with brilliant iridescent mother-of-pearl. The shells are cleaned and often calcined before being broken into pieces. We extract the dried shell.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
