About Satureja hortensis

Summer Savory (Satureja hortensis) is an aromatic annual of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to the eastern Mediterranean and the Caucasus and grown as a culinary herb across Europe and North America, notably in Atlantic Canada. It forms a bushy plant 20 to 40 cm tall with slender, often purplish, finely hairy stems and small, narrow, grey-green leaves that release a warm, peppery, thyme-like scent. Tiny pale lilac to white flowers appear in the leaf axils through summer. It is the classic seasoning for beans in Germany. We extract the dried leaf.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
