Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) is a slender evergreen understorey tree of the quassia family, Simaroubaceae, native to the lowland rainforests of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. It grows 10 to 15 meters, usually unbranched, with a crown of very long pinnate leaves, up to a meter, clustered at the top of the stem, and drooping panicles of small reddish flowers followed by oval red drupes. The long, pale taproot, intensely bitter, is the harvested part, and the Malay name means "Ali's walking stick". We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
