About Speranskia tuberculata

Tou Gu Cao (Speranskia tuberculata) is a small perennial of the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae, native to northern China, where it grows on dry hillsides, sandy slopes and open scrub in Hebei, Shanxi and Shaanxi. It rises 15 to 50 cm from a woody rootstock with slender, hairy stems and alternate, oval to lanceolate, coarsely toothed leaves. Small green flowers are borne in terminal racemes, male above and female below, and the three-lobed capsules are covered in small warts, from which the species takes its name. The Chinese name means "bone-penetrating herb". We extract the dried herb.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
