Tu Fu Ling (Smilax glabra) is the glabrous greenbrier or China root, a climbing perennial vine of the greenbrier family, Smilacaceae, native to southern China, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand, where it grows in forest edges and hillside thickets. Its slender, unarmed stems climb by paired tendrils, with leathery, narrowly elliptic leaves marked by three main veins and glaucous beneath, and small greenish-yellow flowers in umbels followed by purple-black berries. The irregular, knobby rhizome is reddish-brown outside and pinkish-white inside, with a starchy texture. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
