About Vaccaria hispanica

Vaccaria (Vaccaria hispanica) is cowherb or cow cockle, an annual of the pink family, Caryophyllaceae, native to Europe and Asia and naturalized as a field weed across North America, particularly in grain fields of the northern prairies. It grows 30 to 60 cm tall with smooth, blue-green, waxy stems and opposite, lanceolate leaves that clasp the stem, and bears loose, airy clusters of pink five-petaled flowers with an inflated, five-angled calyx. The round capsules hold small black, rough-coated seeds, known in China as wang bu liu xing. We extract the dried seed.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
