About Alismatis orientalis

Water Plantain (Alisma orientale; pharmacopoeial name Rhizoma Alismatis) is the Oriental water plantain, ze xie, an aquatic perennial of the water plantain family, Alismataceae, native to China, Japan, Korea and Siberia, where it grows in shallow ponds, ditches and paddy margins and is cultivated in Fujian and Sichuan. It forms a basal rosette of long-stalked, oval to heart-shaped leaves with parallel veins that rise above the water, and a tall, widely branched panicle 50 to 100 cm high of many tiny white or pinkish three-petaled flowers. The rounded, pale corm is peeled before drying. We extract the dried rhizome.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
