White Sage (Salvia apiana) is an evergreen perennial shrub of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to the coastal sage scrub of southern California and Baja California, where it grows on dry slopes below 1,500 meters. It forms a rounded bush 1 to 1.5 meters tall with whitish-grey, lanceolate leaves densely covered in fine hairs and an intense, resinous, almost camphor-like scent, and in late spring sends up tall stalks of white to pale lavender flowers favored by bees, as the species name notes. Wild populations are under harvest pressure. We extract the dried leaf.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
