About Baptisia tinctoria

Wild Indigo (Baptisia tinctoria) is yellow wild indigo or horsefly weed, a bushy perennial of the legume family, Fabaceae, native to eastern North America from Maine to Florida and Minnesota, where it grows in dry open woods, clearings and sandy fields. It forms a rounded, much-branched clump 60 to 90 cm tall with small, blue-green, clover-like leaves of three leaflets that turn black when dried, and in summer bears short racemes of bright yellow pea flowers followed by small, inflated, blue-black pods. The plant yielded a weak blue dye, hence its name. We extract the dried root.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
