About Satureja montana

Winter Savory (Satureja montana) is a low, woody evergreen perennial of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to the dry, rocky hills of southern Europe from Spain to the Balkans and grown as a culinary herb in gardens across Europe and North America. It forms a compact, spreading bush 20 to 40 cm tall with stiff stems and narrow, dark green, glossy leaves tipped with a short spine, more pungent and pine-like in scent than the annual summer savory. Small white to pale pink two-lipped flowers appear in the leaf axils from late summer. We extract the dried leaf.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
