Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is a hardy perennial of the daisy family, Asteraceae, native throughout the temperate Northern Hemisphere in Europe, Asia and North America, where it grows in meadows, pastures, roadsides and lawns. It spreads by rhizomes into patches 30 to 90 cm tall with tough, grooved stems and soft, feathery, finely divided leaves, the "thousand leaves" of its Latin name, which smell pungent and slightly sweet when crushed. Flat-topped clusters of many tiny white, sometimes pink, daisy-like flower heads bloom from early summer into autumn. We extract the dried flower and herb separately.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
