Yerba Mansa (Anemopsis californica) is a creeping perennial of the lizard's tail family, Saururaceae, native to the alkaline marshes, seeps and wet meadows of California, the American Southwest and northern Mexico. It forms colonies from thick, aromatic rhizomes, with a basal rosette of fleshy, oblong, grey-green leaves 10 to 20 cm long. In spring a stem rises 15 to 50 cm bearing what looks like a single white flower, actually a cone of tiny flowers ringed by five to eight white, petal-like bracts. The whole plant smells spicy and resinous. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
