Yin Chen Hao (Artemisia capillaris) is the capillary wormwood, a semi-shrubby perennial of the daisy family, Asteraceae, native to China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, where it grows on riverbanks, sandy flats, roadsides and hillsides. It forms clumps 40 to 100 cm tall with woody lower stems and soft, grey-green upper growth of hair-fine, thread-like leaf segments that give the species its name. Loose panicles of tiny, nodding, yellowish flower heads appear in late summer. The young spring shoots, pale and downy, are the traditional harvest and carry a sharp aromatic scent. We extract the dried herb.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
