Yohimbe (Pausinystalia johimbe, spelled in the catalogue as Pausinystalia yohimba; POWO now lists it as Corynanthe johimbe) is a tall evergreen tree of the coffee family, Rubiaceae, native to the lowland rainforests of Cameroon, Gabon, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea. It grows 10 to 30 meters with a straight trunk, grey-brown bark that is fissured and reddish inside, and large, glossy, oblong leaves in whorls of three at the branch tips, with small yellowish flowers in dense heads. The bark is stripped in long flat pieces from wild trees and dried. We extract the dried bark.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
