Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena asphodeloides) is a grassy perennial of the asparagus family, Asparagaceae, the only species of its genus, native to northern China, Mongolia and Korea, where it grows on dry sunny hillsides, sandy steppe and grassland. It forms tufts of narrow, arching, grass-like leaves 15 to 60 cm long that rise directly from a thick, creeping, horizontal rhizome, and in summer sends up a slender leafless stalk to 1 meter with a loose spike of small, fragrant, pinkish-white flowers that open in the evening. The rhizome is covered in golden, hair-like leaf bases. We extract the dried root.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
