Zhu Ling (Polyporus umbellatus) is the umbrella polypore or lumpy bracket, a wood-inhabiting fungus of the family Polyporaceae, found in deciduous forests of Europe, North America and East Asia, growing at the base of oaks and beeches from a large underground sclerotium. The fruiting body is a dense cluster, up to 50 cm across, of dozens of small, round, tan to grey-brown caps 1 to 4 cm wide on branching white stems, with tiny white pores beneath. The harvested part is the sclerotium, a hard, black, lumpy mass that is white inside. We extract the dried mushroom.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
