Linden-blossom tea is a delicious drink that is made from the flowers of the linden tree. This drink possesses a fragrant honey aroma and a pleasant sweet taste.

People believed that a person who fell asleep under a linden tree would be very happy. Linden trees were planted near churches as sacred trees. There was also a tradition to plant a linden tree when the first child was born in the family, it was believed that the tree would protect the baby throughout its life. Many people believed that you could hide under a linden tree during a thunderstorm and the lightning would not strike it.

Linden flowers should be harvested in dry weather early in the morning. It is necessary to select only healthy, fully opened inflorescences that are not affected by any rust or insects.

It’s not recommended to keep linden flowers in plastic containers or in the sun because in such conditions the pollen loses the biggest part of its properties. Paper or canvas bags are the best type of packaging for linden flowers.

How to make linden tea

In order to save all the properties it is important to brew the linden tea properly. Take a quarter of a cup of dried linden flowers and pour one liter of water. It is not necessary to pour the boiling water, the optimum water temperature for brewing the tea is about 90-95 degrees. Close the kettle tightly and infuse the tea for around 15-20 minutes.

Properly made linden-blossom tea contains vitamin C, carotene, tannins, flavonoids, essential oils and glycosides.

Cold linden-blossom tea is often used for cosmetic purposes. Cosmeticians recommend to use ice cubes made from linden-blossom tea in order to wipe the face, neck and decollete. Linden tea can be also utilized to rinse the hair which makes it softer and gives a beautiful golden tone.
