PEACH

PEACH

Every Thursday my grandmother and I went to local market. There were plenty of fruits and vegetables. Up to date one of my favorite is a peach. How you should select the right one?

When buying peaches, look for skin that show a background color of yellow or warm cream. The amount of blush on a peach depends on the variety and is not an indicator of ripeness. Green undertones means they were picked to soon and will not be sweet. Look for plump, medium to large-sized peaches with unwrinkled skin. Avoid rock hard fruit. Choose mildly fragrant fruits to ensure sweetness. Avoid dark colored mushy bruised peaches that are over ripe and beginning to spoil. Fresh peaches are usually best when in season, June through August.

Peaches are high in:

  • vitamin A
  • a good source of beta carotene
  • vitamin C
  • potassium
  • carotenes
  • flavonoids
  • natural sugars
  • dietary fiber

It is interesting that the species name, "persica," refers to the origins of this delightful fruit tree, from Persia and the Mediterranean region. Fragrant, white flowers bloom before leaf-out; later, masses of small, green, furry fruit begin to appear, growing straight off the branches and twigs. Something like a fairy tale.

This fruit is a member of the Rosaceae family and is a close relative of almonds.

Try to prepare unforgettable peach smoothie and it will perfect for any time of day.

You need:

1 tbsp pumpkin seeds

1 banana

1 cup peaches

2 cups milk

ice (as needed)

Blend all ingredients until smooth.
