Strong Heart Alcohol-Free Drops
Strong Heart Alcohol-Free Glycerite, Hawthorn Leaf and Flower, Goldenseal RootStrong Heart Alcohol-Free Drops
This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of two herbs extracted together in equal parts: the spring leaf and flower of the European hawthorn and the yellow root of the North American goldenseal. Both are also sold on their own. It is a traditional herbal product that interacts with many medicines and is not a replacement for any prescribed treatment - please read the safety information below before use.
- Hawthorn, leaf and flower - Crataegus laevigata leaf and flower (Rosaceae)
- Goldenseal, root - Hydrastis canadensis root (Ranunculaceae)
- Extract type: Alcohol-free glycerite - liquid drops. Other ingredients: vegetable glycerin, purified water
- Origin: Responsibly sourced botanicals (hawthorn from Bulgaria, goldenseal from the USA). Gluten free. Made in the USA.
What is in the blend
- Hawthorn leaf and flower - the young leaves and clusters of white May blossom of a thorny hedgerow tree of Europe, gathered together in spring. The leaf and flower are a separate preparation from the red autumn berry, which we use in other blends.
- Goldenseal root - the knotted, bright-yellow rhizome of a small perennial of the hardwood forests of the eastern United States, a member of the buttercup family; its color and intense bitterness come from the alkaloids berberine and hydrastine. Because wild goldenseal is a protected species, sourcing matters - ours comes from the USA.
Why the alcohol-free drops
The two dried herbs are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the strong bitterness of goldenseal.
What is a glycerite?
A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.
How to use
Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. Goldenseal is traditionally used in short courses - do not take this blend for more than two to three weeks at a time without talking to your practitioner. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.
Drops or tincture?
If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same two-herb blend is available as Strong Heart Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The herbs and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs.
Important safety information - please read before use
Both herbs in this blend interact with common prescription medicines. Please read before use.
- Not a substitute for treatment: this is an herbal product. If you have been diagnosed with any heart condition, use it only with your doctor, and never stop or change prescribed medication on your own.
- Heart and blood-pressure medication: hawthorn can interact with digoxin, beta-blockers, nitrates, calcium-channel blockers and antihypertensives. Do not use with any of them without your doctor.
- Medicines processed by the liver: goldenseal blocks two major liver enzymes (CYP3A4 and CYP2D6) and can raise blood levels of many prescription drugs, including antidepressants, statins, blood thinners, antiarrhythmics and immunosuppressants. Do not use with prescription medicines without your doctor or pharmacist.
- Pregnancy, nursing and infants: do not use - berberine in goldenseal can cause or worsen jaundice in newborns.
- Blood sugar and blood pressure: goldenseal may lower both - monitor if you take medication for either.
- Surgery: stop use at least two weeks before scheduled surgery.
- Duration: use goldenseal in short courses of two to three weeks; do not take continuously.
- Allergies: goldenseal is a buttercup-family (Ranunculaceae) plant and hawthorn a rose-family (Rosaceae) plant.
- Age: not for children.
- If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

Only customers who have actually received their order — confirmed by tracking — can leave a review.
As long as a review is made in good faith, it goes live immediately — regardless of the rating.
