Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus) Root - Topical Liquid Extract Tincture
This is an alcohol-based liquid extract (tincture) prepared from the dried root of Skunk Cabbage - Symplocarpus foetidus, an eastern North American wetland plant of the arum family (Araceae), also called Eastern Skunk Cabbage and Polecat Weed. This product is for external (topical) use only.
- Botanical name: Symplocarpus foetidus (L.) Salisb. ex W.P.C.Barton (Araceae)
- Plant part: Dried root
- Also known as: Skunk Cabbage, Eastern Skunk Cabbage, Polecat Weed, Swamp Cabbage
- Extract type: Alcohol tincture - for external use only
- Other ingredients: Organic alcohol, vegetable glycerin, crystal clear purified water
- Origin: Responsibly sourced. Gluten free. Made in the USA.
This is Eastern Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus), different from Western Skunk Cabbage (Lysichiton americanus), which we do not carry. Like other arum-family plants, it naturally contains calcium oxalate; please read the important safety information below before use.
Important safety information - please read carefully before use
Skunk cabbage naturally contains calcium oxalate crystals. Please read these cautions before use.
- External use only - never internal: this product is for topical use and must not be swallowed. Skunk cabbage contains needle-like calcium oxalate crystals (raphides); if taken internally they can cause intense burning and swelling of the mouth, throat, and airway, which is why we offer it strictly for external use.
- Skin: apply to intact skin only - do not use on or around the mucous membranes, eyes, or on broken or abraded skin. Do a patch test first, and stop if redness, itching, or rash develops. Because this is an alcohol tincture, it may sting on sensitive skin.
- Pregnancy / nursing: if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking any medications, consult your doctor before use.
- Contains alcohol. Do not use on infants or children. If you have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.
