Frequently Asked Questions about Wild Carrot Extract
What is Wild Carrot (Daucus carota) seed?
Wild Carrot, botanically Daucus carota, is the wild ancestor of the familiar garden carrot and a member of the carrot or parsley family (Apiaceae). It is widely known by its charming common name, Queen Anne's Lace, for its lacy white flower heads, and also as bird's nest or bishop's lace. The part used here is the SEED - the small dried seeds that form after flowering. This is a whole-seed liquid extract, offered in two forms - a traditional alcohol-based tincture and an alcohol-free glycerite - each from carefully identified and sourced raw material. It is important to know that this is the seed of the wild plant, which is a different part from the wildflower itself and from the orange garden carrot root you eat. Please read the important safety note below before use, because wild carrot seed has significant safety considerations, including that it is not for use in pregnancy. This is a whole-seed extract that carries the plant's natural spectrum of constituents, not an isolated compound, and we label it clearly by botanical name and plant part.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Daucus carota seed; only the solvent differs. The tincture uses alcohol as the traditional solvent, with vegetable glycerin and water. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, suited to those who avoid alcohol. Both deliver the seed's constituents in a convenient liquid you take by the drop. Choose the tincture for a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol. See the important safety note below.
Is this the seed, the wildflower, or the garden carrot - and how is it identified?
It helps to separate these clearly. First, seed versus flower versus vegetable: this product is the wild carrot SEED, which is a different part from the lacy white wildflower known as Queen Anne's Lace, and also different from the orange garden carrot root (a cultivated form of the same species) that you eat. All come from Daucus carota, but they are different parts and forms. Second, and very important for safety: in the wild, Daucus carota closely resembles some highly poisonous look-alike plants in the same family, especially poison hemlock (Conium maculatum) and fool's parsley (Aethusa cynapium), which can be deadly. For that reason you should never gather wild carrot yourself; our product is made from properly identified, sourced seed - not foraged material. We label our product clearly by botanical name (Daucus carota) and plant part (seed) so there is no confusion with the flower, the garden carrot, or the poisonous look-alikes.
How do I use Wild Carrot seed liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. Please read the important safety note below before use. Drink the entire contents.
Is Wild Carrot seed extract right for everyone? Important safety information.
Please read this carefully, because wild carrot seed has several important safety considerations. Most importantly, do not use wild carrot seed if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant: it has a long traditional use associated with the reproductive system and is considered unsafe in pregnancy, so it must be avoided by anyone who is pregnant or hoping to conceive. Because wild carrot is in the carrot or parsley family (Apiaceae), do not use it if you are allergic to carrot, celery, fennel, or parsley, as it can cause allergic reactions in sensitive people. Wild carrot also contains compounds called furanocoumarins that can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so limit sun and UV exposure while using it. Note as well that the wild plant closely resembles poisonous look-alikes such as poison hemlock, so only use properly identified material such as this product and never gather wild carrot yourself. If you are nursing, take any medication, or have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children and do not exceed the suggested serving. Discontinue use and consult your practitioner if any adverse reaction occurs. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

ETHICALLY SOURCED, NATURAL INGREDIENTS

Our Wild Carrot (Daucus Carota) Seed is selected from regions with optimal growing conditions to support a high concentration of active constituents. We work only with trusted suppliers and focus on sourcing clean, well-preserved botanical material suitable for high-quality liquid extraction.

As a solvent, we use alcohol to preserve the integrity of the extract and support a clean extraction process.
To verify botanical identity and ensure consistency, all raw materials are tested in our laboratory using established analytical techniques. These include High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) for plant authentication and fingerprinting, or Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and other in-house methods. Our approach is guided by relevant standards such as those of the USP and Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP, allowing us to maintain rigorous quality control, ensuring the material meets our specifications for identity, purity and composition.

METICULOUS EXTRACT PREPARATION

Hawaii Pharm determines the optimal herb-to-menstruum ratio for each botanical. For alcohol-based extracts, we use a carefully balanced alcohol blend to ensure maximum extraction of active compounds while preserving the plant's natural integrity.
Our master herbalists analyze each batch and adjust extraction parameters as needed, ensuring consistent quality despite natural variations in botanical sources.
The result is a potent, stable liquid extract that captures the full spectrum of the botanical's benefits.

COMPREHENSIVE LABORATORY TESTING

Every batch undergoes multiple quality assurance tests including:
  • Organoleptic evaluation (color, consistency, aroma)
  • FTIR and/or HPTLC spectral analysis for identity confirmation
  • Microbiological testing (total plate count, E. coli, coliforms)
  • Yeast and mold screening
  • Alcohol content verification
  • Viscosity measurement
  • Refractometric analysis
