Woad (Isatis Indigotica) is a biennial plant up to 1 m high. The stem is straight. Basal leaves are oblong-lanceolate, hairy; middle and upper (stem) leaves are with a narrow arrow-shaped base. The flowers are yellow with four petals. The petals are 3-4.5 mm long. Blossoming in May - June. Propagated by seeds. It grows in the Caucasus (Armenia), Western (Lebanon, Turkey) and Central Asia (Kazakhstan, China - Xinjiang province), in many European countries, in North Africa (northern Algeria, Morocco). It grows in steppes, on dry hills and slopes.*
