Serenoa repens, commonly known as saw palmetto is a small palm, normally reaching a height of around 60 to 130 cm. It is endemic to the southeastern United States, most commonly along the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal plains, but also as far inland as southern Arkansas. It is a hearty plant; extremely slow growing, and long lived, with some plants, especially in Florida where it is known as simply the palmetto, possibly being as old as 500 – 700 years. Pygeum africanum or Prunus africanum also known as Red Stinkwood, is a large evergreen tree in the rose family growing up to 180 feet (50 m) tall, found across Africa at elevations of 3,000 feet (1,000 m) or higher. Pygeum (Prunus africanum) extract is most commonly used for improvement in urinary problems, difficult urination, and prostate inflammation. Less commonly, Prunus africanum extract is used for fever, stomach ache, malaria, and kidney disease. Pygeum contains chemicals that help shrink the prostate to relieve urinary problems such as poor urine flow and nighttime urination in men with enlarged prostates.*

Suggested use and dosage for adults: Shake well before use. 20-30 drops (1 ml., one full squeeze of dropper), up to 4 times a day or as directed by your practitioner. The best way to use liquid herbal tinctures is to put the suggested amount in a glass of water, tea, or juice and drink the entire contents. Tinctures can also be administered directly into the mouth without the assistance of water however some tinctures are unpalatable which is why most people prefer to dilute them into a beverage.
