Indian Mallow (Abutilon Indicum) is a small, perennial, herbaceous plant that belongs to the Malvaceae family. This subshrub can reach up to 1-1.5 m in height. The branches are downy and hairy. The leaves are simple, alternately arranged, toothed, broadly ovate, heart-shaped at base, and about 1.9-5 cm long. The petioles are about 2.5-7.5 cm long. The yellow or orange flowers are regular, monoecious, solitary, about 2.5 cm across. *

Indian mallow has low acute toxicity, but it is little studied - a few cautions are sensible.
- Keep to the serving: do not exceed the suggested amount - higher doses have shown effects on the liver and signs of DNA damage in studies, and the extract has not been well studied - so keep to modest, short-term use.
- Allergy: it is in the Malvaceae (mallow) family - avoid it if you are sensitive to that family.
- Pregnancy / nursing: do NOT use it during pregnancy, and consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use if you are breastfeeding.
- Not the same as Bala: do not confuse it with Bala / country mallow (Sida cordifolia), which contains ephedrine.
- Contains alcohol. Do not give it to infants or young children. If you take any medication or have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children.
