Psyllium is a low-growing herb native to India, Iran, and Pakistan. It is in the same family as the common Plantain and seed is best used and absorbed without the husk. Psyllium contains ascorbic acid, aucubin, beta-carotene, beta-sitosterol, calcium, chromium, cobalt, fiber, linoleic acid, magnesium, manganese, mucilage, niacin, oleic acid, oxalic acid, phosphorous, potassium, riboflavin, selenium, sodium, stigmasterol, thiamine, tin, zinc. The seed has less fiber than the husk but a wide range of nutrients the husks do not.*

Suggested use and dosage: Shake well before use. 20-30 drops, three times a day or as directed by your practitioner. The best way to use liquid herbal glycerites is to put the suggested amount in a glass of water, tea, or juice and drink the entire contents. Glycerites can also be administered directly into the mouth without the assistance of water however some glycerites are unpalatable which is why most people prefer to dilute them into a beverage.

Psyllium is a common food-grade fiber, but a few cautions are important.
- Allergy: psyllium is a recognized allergen and has caused serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis and asthma, in sensitized people - do NOT use it if you are allergic to psyllium or to seeds.
- Take with plenty of fluid: psyllium absorbs water and swells - always take it with a full glass of water, and do NOT use it if you have difficulty swallowing, a narrowing of the gut, or any bowel obstruction, because of the risk of choking or blockage.
- Medications: psyllium can reduce how well the body absorbs medicines, so take it well apart from any medication (for example, two hours before or after) and consult your practitioner.
- Blood sugar: psyllium may lower blood sugar - monitor closely and seek advice if you take diabetes medication.
- Pregnancy / nursing: do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding without professional advice, and do not give it to young children.
- If you take any medication or have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children.
