Qin Jiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae) is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Gentianaceae family. It is usually about 20-60 cm tall. The main root is long and thick, cylindrical, twisted, with several branches and a threaded central part. The stems are oblique or straight, and glabrous. The leaves are sessile, tufty, about 40 cm long, with lanceolate blades, acute apex, entire margin and 5 main veins. The flowers grow in clusters; the tubular corolla is dark purple. There are usually 5 stamens; the ovary is sessile and oblong. The capsule is oblong or oval. The brown seeds are oval and glossy. *
