PANDA'S DELICACY
There are two useful parts of the plant: Bamboo shoots and essential oils.
Bamboo is native to Asia and is used extensively in Asian cooking. The most edible part of the plant is the shoots. They can be fresh, canned, dried and frozen.
Bamboo shoots are good source of dietary fiber.
Bamboo shoots contain:
- potassium
- protein
- riboflavin
- manganese
- copper
- zinc
- vitamin B6.
Bamboo tea is very easy to prepare:
- take one teaspoon of bamboo leaves
- add two to three cups of water, and heat the mixture into a teapot
- once the mixture starts to boil, switch off the stove and cover the pot
- allow it to cool for a couple of minutes and then strain the mixture
- add a sweetening agent (honey/sugar)
Bamboo teas taste good even when they are cold!
