Blood Pressure Formula Alcohol-Free Drops

This is an alcohol-free liquid extract (glycerite) of three ingredients extracted together in equal parts: a kitchen bulb, a tart red flower calyx and a woodland mushroom. Each is also sold on its own. It is a traditional herbal product and not a replacement for any prescribed medication - please read the safety information below before use.

  • Garlic, bulb - Allium sativum bulb (Amaryllidaceae)
  • Hibiscus, flower - Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx (roselle) (Malvaceae)
  • Reishi, whole mushroom - Ganoderma lucidum fruiting body (Ganodermataceae; a fungus, not a plant)
  • Extract type: Alcohol-free glycerite - liquid drops. Other ingredients: vegetable glycerin, purified water
  • Origin: Responsibly sourced cultivated botanicals and cultivated reishi. Gluten free. Made in the USA.

What is in the blend

  • Garlic - the dried bulb of Allium sativum, the same species as culinary garlic, cultivated for thousands of years from Central Asia to the Mediterranean. Its pungent sulfur compounds are what you smell when a clove is crushed.
  • Hibiscus - the fleshy, deep-red calyx that surrounds the seed pod of Hibiscus sabdariffa, the roselle plant of West Africa and the tropics, the same part brewed as tart hibiscus tea (agua de jamaica). It is not the ornamental garden hibiscus.
  • Reishi (Lingzhi) - the glossy, reddish-brown, fan-shaped mushroom that grows on hardwood stumps in East Asia; the whole fruiting body is used. Ours is cultivated.

Why the alcohol-free drops

The three dried ingredients are extracted together in vegetable glycerin and purified water, so there is no ethanol in the bottle - the version to choose if you avoid alcohol. Glycerin gives the drops a mild, naturally sweet taste that softens the pungency of garlic and the tartness of hibiscus.

What is a glycerite?

A glycerite is a liquid herbal extract made with vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Glycerin is a clear, naturally sweet liquid from plant oils; it extracts and preserves the water-soluble parts of the herbs. Because glycerin is a weaker preservative than alcohol, keep the bottle refrigerated after opening. The glycerin and water percentages are printed on the label.

How to use

Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. If you take any medication, take this blend at least two hours apart from it. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label.

Drops or tincture?

If you prefer the classic alcohol-based extract with the longest shelf life at room temperature, the same three-ingredient blend is available as Blood Pressure Formula Tincture - the alcohol-based version. The ingredients and proportions are identical; only the extraction liquid differs. Note that our Blood Pressure Support Alcohol-Free Drops is a different blend of hawthorn, motherwort, marshmallow leaf and flax seed.

Important safety information - please read before use

All three ingredients in this blend can interact with common medicines. Please read before use.

  • Not a substitute for medication: this is an herbal product. If you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure or any heart condition, use it only with your doctor, and never stop or change prescribed medication on your own.
  • Blood pressure medication: garlic, hibiscus and reishi may each add to the effect of antihypertensive drugs and diuretics - monitor with your doctor.
  • Blood thinners and surgery: garlic and reishi may slow blood clotting. Do not combine with warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel or other anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs without your doctor. Stop use at least two weeks before surgery or dental work.
  • Pregnancy / nursing: do not use.
  • Blood sugar: garlic and reishi may lower blood sugar - monitor if you take diabetes medication.
  • Other medicines: garlic can reduce the effect of some HIV medicines such as saquinavir; hibiscus can lower the levels of acetaminophen and chloroquine. Take this blend at least two hours apart from any medication and ask your pharmacist.
  • Liver: rare cases of liver injury have been reported with reishi, especially together with alcohol. Stop and see a doctor if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine or unusual fatigue.
  • Immune-suppressing drugs: reishi may interfere with them - consult your doctor.
  • Hormonal medicines: hibiscus contains plant estrogens - consult your practitioner if you take hormone therapy or birth control.
  • Allergies: do not use if you are allergic to garlic or onions (Allium), or to mallow-family (Malvaceae) plants.
  • Age: not for children.
  • If you have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Do not use it to self-treat any medical condition - see a qualified doctor instead. Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Blood Pressure Formula Alcohol-Free Drops?
Blood Pressure Formula is a three-ingredient liquid blend: garlic bulb (Allium sativum), hibiscus flower (the calyx of Hibiscus sabdariffa, also called roselle) and reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum), extracted together in equal parts in vegetable glycerin and purified water, with no alcohol. Garlic is the familiar kitchen bulb, hibiscus the tart red calyx used for hibiscus tea, and reishi a glossy fan-shaped mushroom that grows on hardwood; each is also sold on its own. It is an herbal glycerite, not a capsule. It is a botanical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Please read the safety note below - this blend is not suitable for everyone, and it is not a replacement for any prescribed medication.
What is the difference between the alcohol-free drops and the tincture?
Both contain the same three ingredients in the same proportions; only the extraction liquid differs. These drops are a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water - no alcohol, a milder and naturally sweet taste that softens the pungency of garlic and the tartness of hibiscus, best kept refrigerated after opening. The tincture uses organic alcohol with vegetable glycerin and water, the classic method with the longest shelf life at room temperature. Choose whichever suits you; the safety notes apply to both.
How is Blood Pressure Formula different from Blood Pressure Support? Which part of hibiscus is used?
They are different blends with no ingredients in common. Blood Pressure Formula, this product, is garlic bulb, hibiscus flower and reishi mushroom. Blood Pressure Support is hawthorn leaf and flower, motherwort, marshmallow leaf and flax seed. The hibiscus here is the fleshy red calyx of Hibiscus sabdariffa, the roselle plant used for hibiscus tea, not the ornamental garden hibiscus. Reishi is a fungus rather than a plant: the whole fruiting body of Ganoderma lucidum, known as lingzhi in Chinese tradition. Garlic is the dried bulb, the same species as culinary garlic.
How do I use Blood Pressure Formula Drops?
Shake well before use. Put the number of drops shown on the label into a little water, juice or tea and drink it, up to the frequency shown on the label. Do not exceed the label serving. If you take any medication, take this blend at least two hours apart from it. Refrigerate after opening and use within the period printed on the label. Keep out of reach of children.
