About Saraca asoca

Ashoka (Saraca asoca) is a small evergreen tree of the pea family, Fabaceae, native to the rain-fed forests and foothills of India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, and planted in temple courtyards across the subcontinent. It grows 7 to 10 meters with a dense, rounded crown, dark grey bark, and glossy pinnate leaves whose young leaflets hang limp and coppery pink before hardening. From late winter into spring the branches carry dense, fragrant clusters of flowers that open yellow-orange and deepen to scarlet, followed by flat, leathery pods up to 25 centimeters long. It is one of the sacred trees of Hindu and Buddhist tradition. We extract the dried bark.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
