Avocado (Persea americana) is an evergreen tree of the laurel family, Lauraceae, native to south-central Mexico and Central America and now grown in orchards from California and Florida to Peru, Israel, and South Africa. It reaches 10 to 20 meters with leathery dark green leaves, small greenish-yellow flowers in dense panicles, and a fruit that is botanically a large single-seeded berry, pear-shaped to round, with a leathery green to black skin and buttery yellow-green flesh. In the center sits a single large, smooth, light brown seed 3 to 5 centimeters across, bitter to the taste, which leaves a reddish stain when cut. We extract the dried seed.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
