About Morinda officinalis

Ba Ji Tian (Morinda officinalis, listed in our catalog under its Latin trade name Radix Morindae Officinalis) is a woody climbing shrub of the coffee family, Rubiaceae, native to the warm hills of southern China, from Guangdong and Guangxi to Fujian, and northern Vietnam. Its slender twining stems carry opposite, glossy oblong leaves and small heads of white four-lobed flowers that are followed by fused red fruits. The fleshy roots are the distinctive feature: they are purplish-brown, constricted at intervals into bead-like segments, and when dried the bark shrinks and splits to show a woody central core. We extract the dried root.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
