Bamboo Shavings (Caulis Bambusae in Taeniam, the Latin trade name for the scraped middle layer of bamboo stems, chiefly from Bambusa tuldoides) come from clumping bamboos of the grass family, Poaceae, native to southern China, in Guangdong, Guangxi, and Fujian, and northern Vietnam. Bambusa tuldoides forms dense clumps of culms 6 to 10 meters tall and 3 to 5 centimeters thick, dark green turning yellowish with age, with short branches of narrow pointed leaves. To make the shavings, the thin green outer skin is scraped away and the pale, fibrous middle layer is shaved into long, curly, ribbon-like strips, light yellow-green, faintly sweet, and odorless. We extract the dried shavings.
Tincture or alcohol-free drops?
Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol
as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use
vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of
dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
