About Morella cerifera

Bayberry (Morella cerifera, formerly Myrica cerifera), the southern bayberry or wax myrtle, is an evergreen shrub or small tree of the Myricaceae family, native to the coastal plain of the southeastern United States from New Jersey to Texas, Mexico, and the Caribbean, where it grows in sandy pine woods, dunes, and swamp edges. It reaches 1 to 9 meters with slender, grey-barked stems and narrow, leathery, olive-green leaves dotted with resin glands that smell sharply spicy when crushed. Female plants bear clusters of tiny grey-blue berries coated in pale wax, which colonists boiled off to make fragrant bayberry candles. We extract the dried root bark.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
