About Mentha citrata

Bergamot Mint (Mentha citrata, now classified as a citrus-scented form of peppermint, Mentha x piperita f. citrata), also called eau de cologne mint or orange mint, is a creeping perennial of the mint family, Lamiaceae, of European garden origin and naturalized in damp ground across Europe and North America. It grows 30 to 60 centimeters with smooth, purplish square stems, rounded, dark green, bronze-tinged leaves, and dense heads of lilac flowers in late summer. Unlike other mints it has almost no menthol; its leaves smell of lavender and orange peel because the oil is dominated by linalool and linalyl acetate. We extract the dried flowering tops.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
