About Trillium erectum

Beth Root (Trillium erectum), the red trillium or stinking Benjamin, is a woodland perennial of the Melanthiaceae family, formerly placed in the lilies, native to rich, moist deciduous forests of eastern North America from Quebec and Ontario south through the Appalachians to Georgia. A single stem 20 to 40 centimeters tall carries a whorl of three broad, diamond-shaped leaves and, in spring, one nodding flower with three deep maroon petals that smells of wet dog, an odor that attracts carrion flies. The fruit is a dark red, fleshy, six-angled berry. The short, thick, knotted rhizome is harvested after the leaves die back. We extract the dried root.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
