About Betula alba

Birch (Betula alba, an old collective name for the white birches Betula pendula and Betula pubescens) is a graceful deciduous tree of the birch family, Betulaceae, native to woods, heaths, and bog edges across Europe and northern Asia, from Iceland and the British Isles to Siberia. It grows 15 to 25 meters with a slender trunk whose smooth, papery, chalk-white bark peels in thin horizontal strips and darkens into black fissures at the base. The small, triangular leaves are toothed and turn yellow in autumn, and the flowers are dangling catkins in early spring. The bark owes its white color to crystals of betulin. We extract the dried bark.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
