About Nigella sativa

Black Cumin (Nigella sativa), also called black seed, kalonji, or black caraway, is a small annual of the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae, native to southwest Asia and the eastern Mediterranean and grown as a spice crop from Egypt and Turkey to India. It grows 20 to 40 centimeters with finely divided, thread-like leaves and delicate pale blue or white five-petaled flowers in summer, followed by inflated, horned seed capsules. The seeds are tiny, matte black, and three-angled, with a sharp, slightly bitter taste of oregano and onion; bakers scatter them over Turkish bread and naan, and they are not related to true cumin. We extract the dried seed.

Tincture or alcohol-free drops?

Both start from the same dried plant material and cold maceration. The tincture uses organic alcohol as the solvent, keeps for years and is the classic herbal form. The alcohol-free drops (glycerite) use vegetable glycerin and purified water, taste mildly sweet and suit anyone avoiding alcohol. The amount of dried herb per serving is printed on each label.
